Women and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) was presented in conjunction with the Toronto Archives exhibition, “90 Seasons of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.” This talk explores the vital role of women throughout the history of the TSO.

Andrea Hansen is violinist who retired from the TSO in 1999. In 1988, Hansen co-founded Strings Across the Sky, a not-for-profit dedicated to inspiring learning through the art of fiddling for youth in Canada’s Arctic region. For more information please see Strings Across the Sky.

Marion Langford is a member of the TSO’s Honorary Governors’ Circle, and leading member and past president of the Women’s Volunteer Association.

The TSO was founded in 1922 as the New Symphony Orchestra, by a group of Toronto musicians and Viennese-born conductor Luigi von Kunits. For more information please see the TSO.
